PARKSVILLE CURLING CLUB
CODE OF CONDUCT

RESPONSIBILITIES OF MEMBERS

1. It is understood that the Parksville Curling Club, including its Directors, employees, and members will not be held responsible for injury, death, damage, or loss of any kind suffered by a member while on the premises or property of the Parksville Curling Club due to any reason even if by the negligence of the Club.
2. Members will be held responsible and accountable for any damages incurred due to their fault.
3. Children under the age of 16 must be supervised unless they are a member of the Parksville Curling Club.
4. Pets or domestic animals (except for Service dogs) are not allowed inside the Arena area of the Parksville Curling Club.

CONDUCT POLICY

1. Members of the Club shall participate in the game of curling with honesty, integrity, courtesy and sportsmanship. The Parksville Curling Club strengthens itself by fostering diversity and inclusion. Members must treat others with dignity and respect at all times. Members are asked to address and report inappropriate behavior and comments that are discriminatory, harassing, abusive, and unwelcoming (see section below on "Bullying and Harassment").
2. Any issues should be taken to the Club Manager. Information that is deemed necessary to the issue will be gathered from any source and the Manager will initiate discussion with the individual(s) involved. Confidentiality will be upheld by all involved.

FACILITY USE

1. Members must do their part to help keep the facility neat and tidy. Members should return rental brooms, stabilizers and sliders to the rental area, push in chairs, remove any items that were brought into the Club, and help clean spills caused by themselves.
2. Any damage to facility or property must be reported to the Club Manager.
3. Cost may be incurred for damage to the facility or property. This includes, but is not limited to damaged hacks, rocks, brooms, tables, chairs, doors or windows, walls, or even the parking lot.
4. Do not hang or post anything to the facility walls without the authorization of Management. Nails, screws, bolts, staples, tacks, or heavy-duty tape are not to be used. It is recommended to use only sticky tack.
5. Staff members have free access to the entire facility at all times.
6. Exits must be kept free of obstructions.

 ALCOHOL AND CONSUMPTION

1. No outside alcohol may be brought into the Curling Club.
2. No alcohol is to leave the licensed areas in accordance with the regulations of the Liquor and Cannabis Commission. Alcohol is not permitted in the ice arena.
3. Personal decorum is expected at all times. Drunk or rowdy behaviour is not acceptable and will result in the offending individual being asked to leave the premises. No refunds will be provided under these circumstances.

SMOKING, DRUGS, AND CONSUMPTION

1. Smoking of cigarettes is permissible outside of the facility, 10 meters from any door, window, or air intake.
2. Smoking of cannabis products is not allowed anywhere in the Community Park as per City of Parksville guidelines.

MULTIMEDIA

1. The Club may take pictures and/or videos of members.
2. Pictures/videos may be stored on computer, posted to the website or on social media and/or used in promotional marketing such as posters and videos.

PARKING

1. The Curling Club cannot be held responsible for any damages to or thefts from a vehicle.
2. Parking on Curling Club property is only allowed in the parking areas to the south and west of the building. As per City of Parksville requirements, vehicles are not allowed to park on the east side of the building as this may impeded emergency vehicle access and egress.

PAYMENT

1. Members agree to pay their dues and league fees in full when specified. Usually this is before the first day of league curling.
2. Failure to pay the full amount may result in the revocation of membership at the Curling Club.
3. The Club accepts cash, debit/credit, or cheques.
4. Members may experience extra costs in the event that they cause damage to the facility in any way.

EMERGENCIES AND PROCEDURES

1. It is understood that the Curling Club cannot be held responsible if, on any date and at any time, the facility cannot be used due to uncontrollable circumstances (eg. Plant failure for Curling ice, adverse weather effects, etc.).
2. The Club may disrupt or change league schedules without notice.
3. Members must follow the evacuation and emergency procedures given by a staff member in the event of an emergency.
4. There are telephones in the Manager's office and common lounge area. First aid kits are on the east wall of the ice area and in the ice maker's room. An automated external defibrillator (AED) is on the east wall of the ice area. Emergency blanket and supplies can be found in the first aid bin in the arena under the clock. Dial 911 for emergencies.

PREVENTION OF BULLYING AND HARASSMENT

The Parksville Curling Club (PCC) is committed to encouraging and maintaining good relations within an environment which fosters teamwork and encourages all staff, members and guests to act responsibly. Everyone involved with the PCC and those who have dealings with the PCC have a responsibility to maintain good working relationships and not use words or deeds that may harm the wellbeing of others. Everyone has the right to be treated with consideration, fairness, dignity and respect. This contributes to an environment in which individuals feel safe.

The PCC has a "zero tolerance" policy and will investigate vigorously any allegations of bullying or harassment, regardless of whether the matter has been raised formally or informally.

Harassment and Bullying may be summarized as any behavior that is unwanted by the person to whom it is directed. It is the impact of the behavior rather than the intent of the perpetrator that is the determinant as to whether harassment or bullying has occurred.

1. Any member who wishes to make a complaint of harassment or bullying is encouraged to first discuss matters informally with their league Captain, provided they feel able to do so. Should the issues not be resolved at this stage, or the member feels unable to raise the issue informally, then a formal resolution should be sought.
2. When a complaint of Harassment or Bullying is brought to the attention of a league captain or a board member, whether informally or formally, prompt action must be taken to investigate the matter. Very often people are not aware that their behavior is unwelcome or misunderstood and an informal discussion can lead to greater understanding and agreement that the behavior will cease. Complainants are therefore encouraged to try, if they feel able to do so, to resolve the problem informally by making it clear to the alleged harasser that his/her actions are unwanted and should not be repeated. This may be done verbally or in writing in which case the complainant should keep a copy of the documentation, and where possible, the times and dates of incidents should be recorded.
3. If the complaint cannot be resolved informally, the complaint can be brought to the club executive for resolution. All matters relating to the investigation of complaints of harassment or bullying will be treated in strict confidence.
4. The investigation by the executive will be conducted by at least two executives wherein they will interview both the complainant and perpetrator and any witnesses. The interviews will be confidential and all participants will keep the nature and details confidential. The findings and action will be recorded.
5. The Board has the authority to expel from the club any individual whose actions contravene this policy.

Members have agreed to abide by the contents of this document by signing the "Agree to Club Wavers" section of the registration form.
